Reef•Basis Mag•React is a supreme quality, magnesium rich carbonate mineral specially selected for for use in calcium and magnesium reactors. It provides a gradual increase in magnesium and carbonate levels to support both magnesium level and buffering in the aquarium. It is free of chloride and sulfate and will not contribute to ionic imbalance in the system.

Use in aquarium keeping.

Magnesium plays a crucial role in maintaining calcium solubility and has an limiting effect on calcium precipitation in the aquarium. Mag•React provides magnesium in a gentle release over time, allowing for increased stability in both the calcium and magnesium level in the aquarium. Continuum recommends that you maintain a magnesium level of 1,290 to 1,320 ppm in a reef aquarium.

Directions and protocol.

Rinse well in cold filtered freshwater, preferably RO or distilled water, or used aquarium water. Place in the main or secondary chamber of a calcium reactor and use in a ratio of about 9 parts of Reef•Basis - Cal•React (or aragonite) to 1 part of this product, Reef•Basis - Mag•React. (Do not exceed a ratio of 7:1 because the alkalinity may rise beyond a desirable level if too much Mag•React is used). This ratio will normally maintain proper calcium to magnesium ratios in the aquarium. Over time, you can adjust this ratio to suit the measured levels of Calcium and Magnesium in your aquarium. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions that were furnished with the calcium reactor to adjust the rates of water flow and CO2 injection to obtain the desired concentrations of magnesium and calcium in the effluent. Over time, as your reef grows, demand for calcium, magnesium and carbonate will increase. It is possible that other supplementation of magnesium may be required. If so, simultaneous use of Reef•Basis - Magnesium dry or liquid will allow you to maintain the proper level.
